Additionally, Carpenter inspects buildings to determine repair that needs to be done. An apprenticeship and/or formal training may be required. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Carpenter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     Job Description:

    The Carpenter with IFAS Facilities Planning and Operations inspects and performs maintenance and preventative maintenance on all UF/IFAS-owned buildings. Driving a state vehicle to work sites is required.

    Duties will include:

    • Performs carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and preventive maintenance without the need for daily supervision. Driving a state vehicle to work sites is required.

    • Installs plumbing, electrical, cabinetry, and related equipment.

    • Performs various finish carpentry tasks.

    • Performs various renovation tasks such as painting, paneling, drywall, and masonry. Other related duties as required in renovation and new construction work.

    • Performs other related duties as required in renovation and new construction work. Some tasks will require driving a vehicle to job sites.

    • Special projects for IFAS, build specialty cases, reception areas and other displays for IFAS Events.

    Expected Salary:

    $19-23 hourly, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

    Minimum Requirements:

    Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for multiple trades; or a high school diploma and four years of appropriate experience. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

    Maintenance of a valid Florida driver's license is required.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Self-starting work ethic.
    • Proficiency with carpentry.
    • Knowledge of hand tools and power tools, including pressure washers.
    • Familiarity with essentials of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical.
    • Strong communication skills.
    • Ability to learn and utilize electronic work order system.
