Carpenter constructs, maintains, and remodels buildings or related structures. Installs, fixes, or modifies all aspects of a building, including walls, ceilings, floors, and stairs, as well as related structures like railings, doors, windows, and air conditioning systems. Being a Carpenter follows blueprints and plans to ensure requirements and specifications are met. Observes all worksite safety procedures and guidelines. Additionally, Carpenter inspects buildings to determine repair that needs to be done. An apprenticeship and/or formal training may be required. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Carpenter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. POSITION PURPOSE:
The Carpenter performs all levels of carpentry with emphasis on finish work where appearance is as important as the integrity of structure. Much of the work is performed with oral or roughly sketched, general directions, requiring the application of standard practices. Unusual assignments are accompanied by detailed directions. The Carpenter is expected to resolve most problems that may arise. Difficult problems are cleared through discussion with the supervisor.
