Additionally, Carpenter inspects buildings to determine repair that needs to be done. An apprenticeship and/or formal training may be required. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Carpenter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     Maintenance Mechanic / Carpenter

    FSI is looking to hire a Maintenance Mechanic/Carpenter to join our team.

    Job Summary

    The Maintenance Mechanic will perform general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings. This requires practical skills and knowledge (not proficiency) in such trades as: painting, carpentry, plumbing and electrical work. You may be asked to switch to 2nd or 3rd shift at any point during the contract.  This is based on the contract with the government.    

    Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Performs routine inspections of buildings and equipment.
    • Replaces belts and filters on air handing units.
    • Replaces electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors.
    • Replaces or repairs concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks.
    • Replaces damaged paneling and floor tiles.
    • Repair and maintenance of ceiling tiles, walls, and items associated with general building maintenance.
    • General Maintenance and repairs of installed equipment and systems to include aspects of plumbing, compressed gas systems, pumps, compressors, blowers, fans and electrical motors.
    • Performs general maintenance on equipment and machinery.
    • Assists in the performance of the following: rebuilding pumps and compressors, replacing bearings and seals, repair or replace plumbing systems or components, install threaded or sweated pipe segments, repair or replace refrigeration components, and perform maintenance of installed irrigation systems.
    • Light electrical work.
    • Plumbing work (fixture replacement, unclog drains, replace fixture hoses etc.
    • Mechanical work as in filter changing.    
    • Perform preventative maintenance as assigned.
    • Assist with salting and snow removal.
    • Planning and laying out of work from blueprints, drawings, models or verbal instructions.
    • Maintain in good repair building woodwork and equipment such as bins, cribs, counters, benches, partitions, doors.
    • Using a variety of carpenter's hand tools, portable power tools and standard measuring instruments, and making standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work; and selecting materials necessary for the work.
    • Maintains the general cleanliness and appearance of assigned spaces, assist others as part of the maintenance team.
    • Performs all duties in conformance with company safety policies and procedures.

    Education and/or Work Experience Requirements

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Minimum of 2 - years related experience and/or training in carpentry, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Experience with a facility computerized maintenance management system software.
    • Must be able to lift 100 lbs., squat, bend, stoop and kneel for short periods, climb a ladder, stand for long periods of time, constant arm extensions.
    • Must be able to pass a local background check and have the ability to obtain and maintain NAC/LAC clearance after hire.
    • Must possess a valid state driver’s license and insurable driving record.
    • Maintains the general cleanliness and appearance of assigned spaces, assist others as part of the maintenance team as required and perform other duties assigned according to personal qualifications.
    • Must have the drive to get things done and the ability to interact with government officials, staff, patients, and fellow co-workers.
