Director, Asset Liability Management

Job Purpose This Director, ALM assists in the monitoring and risk management of Jackson's asset/liability position. The Director's responsibilities include enhancing the efficiency of Jackson's asset allocation to its liabilities, performing key ALM analysis supporting hedging decisions, accurate compilation of key ALM data to senior management at Jackson as well as improving the accuracy of the financial modeling used within the ALM department. Essential Responsibilities Periodically reviews and analyzes Jackson’s Strategic Asset Allocations backing various liability segments to enhance efficiency between portfolio return and risk exposure. Prepares monthly duration analysis for reporting to the Asset Liability Committee (ALCO). Works with Asset Management and Actuarial teams to periodically assess capital efficient investment activities, including rebalancing between portfolios. Recommends annually to the Investment Committee, Reinvestment Assumptions for various Actuarial liability and capital models. Provides oversight to monthly Actuarial asset modelling process along with recommendations on methodology enhancements. Provides support as required for any ALM analysis that would support hedging decisions, including those related to drivers of capital creation. Assists ALM department in implementing modeling techniques that are designed to improve accuracy and efficiency. Assists in periodic update of Investment policy and ALM policy. Project management of complex cross-functional workstreams with focus on key objectives, building consensus and senior stakeholder management through effective communication. Reviews work product produced by staff and focuses on effective methods of presentation and communication of results. Manages professional staff; responsible for personnel actions including hiring, individual performance and salary reviews, corrective action and terminations. Other Duties Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrated sound knowledge of US retirement products, financial risk exposures, ALM techniques and derivatives. Strong knowledge of actuarial principles and methodologies underlying General Account insurance liability valuations. Understanding of the risk and return characteristics of multiple asset classes that support insurance liabilities. Understanding of VA guarantees and Registered Index Linked Annuities’ product design and the key drivers that impact hedge modeling would be desirable. Demonstrated sound knowledge in the design, operation and testing of quantitative analytical models. Demonstrated sound understanding of risk management principles, processes and practice. Strong verbal and written communication skills especially when articulating technical concepts in a compelling manner to engage both technical and non-technical audiences. Strong business acumen and financial knowledge. Ability to establish and build effective relationships within and outside the organization. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to effectively resolve complex problems and issues. Extensive knowledge of computer programming. Highly detail-oriented, with strong organization and multi-tasking skills. Ability to manage, lead, train and develop professional staff. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or related field of study required. Master's Degree preferred. 8 years relevant Asset Liability Management or Actuarial experience required. Management experience required. Attained either the Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation or equivalent work experience required.
