Assistant Manager - Surveillance
Summary/Objective:
The Surveillance Assistant Manager at Ute Mountain Casino Hotel is integral to the casino's security, supporting the Surveillance Manager in overseeing surveillance operations. This role encompasses monitoring casino activities, adhering to strict internal controls, and ensuring compliance with various gambling regulations. Responsibilities extend to personnel management, including training and performance evaluation, and maintaining high operational standards in surveillance activities. The position demands a strong command of surveillance systems, an understanding of equipment maintenance and upkeep, acute situational awareness, and effective interdepartmental communication.
The primary objective of this role is to uphold the safety and security standards of the casino environment. This involves demonstrating leadership qualities, maintaining focus in a dynamic setting, keeping equipment operational, maintaining discipline in surveillance activities, knowing when to escalate, and collaborating with other departments to ensure the highest level of security. The Assistant Manager is expected to be physically and mentally prepared for the demands of the role, including managing stressful situations and adapting to changing circumstances. Qualifications:
General:
- Must be at least 21 years old to obtain a UMUGC Key License (required). Must be able to pass the UMUGC and CG background investigations (no financial crimes or other felonies).
- Must have valid driver’s license.
Education:
- Associate’s degree (or higher) in criminal justice or a related field preferred.
- Relevant experience may be substituted for higher education in some cases.
Certifications:
No certifications are required for this role.
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years in casino security or equivalent required, with at least 1 year of supervisory experience required.
- Relevant education may be substituted for experience in some cases.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Knowledge:
- Advanced understanding of security, surveillance practices, surveillance systems, camera operations, monitoring techniques, “red flag” behavioral ques, equipment maintenance, and other related concepts.
- In-depth understanding of applicable tribal, state, and federal regulations as they pertain to casino operations.
- Working knowledge of cheating and fraud techniques.
- Understanding of security protocols and procedures specific to gaming and casino environments.
- Basic understanding of management concepts.
- Understanding of risk assessment and management principles as they apply to casino security and surveillance.
Skills:
- Strong communicative skills; ability to read, write, and speak English with correct spelling, grammar, syntax, structure and delivery.
- Leadership skills with the ability to effectively assist in the supervision, training, and management of surveillance personnel.

Key Accountabilities:
- Assist in Operational Oversight: Assist the Surveillance Manager in the supervision of the surveillance department, ensuring adherence to internal controls and monitoring of casino operations for safety and security.
- Mission Understanding and Readiness: Stay well informed regarding tribal, state, and federal gambling regulations. Understand common cheating methods and ways to identify such practices. Maintain a strong understanding and promote compliance with casino SOPs, gaming compact, MICS, and all other regulations/standards governing the gaming industry.
- Staff/Personnel Management: Responsible for assisting and supporting the Surveillance Manager in hiring, training, coaching, discipline, and conducting performance reviews of all surveillance department employees. Assist in the supervision of staff and coordinate with other department as necessary to meet the mission of exceptional safety and security.
- Surveillance Operations: Exemplify high standards as they pertain to situational awareness; optimal camera coverage; operation, installation, and upkeep of security equipment; documentation and reporting; and all other surveillance activities. Assist the Surveillance Manager with training staff and monitoring performance against such standards.
- Interdepartmental Communication and Collaboration: Liaise with other department supervisors regarding security incidents and collaborate to ensure the highest standard of safety and security in the Ute Mountain Casino. Keep Surveillance Manager informed regarding pertinent information.
- Quality, Compliance, and Safety: Enforce and adhere to all regulatory and company policies. Maintain a clear understanding of both customer service standards, regulatory compliance, and emergency preparedness procedures. Be prepared to train and evaluate staff on these concepts.
