Category Manager develops the overall strategy for a product category and researches new product options in the category to drive sales and achieve targets. Leads a team that provides category insights and proposals by analyzing marketing and customer data and monitoring relevant market conditions. Being a Category Manager works closely with sales team to determine optimal pricing through analysis of sales trends, competitors, buying habits and planograms of products to promote sales opportunities. Provides effective promotional materials. Additionally, Category Manager may develop special arrangements with vendors to enhance product promotions. Requires a bachelor's degree of marketing. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Category Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. To be a Category Manager typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.   • Schneider Electric has an opportunity for an Associate Category Manager for a plastic molding category (Thermoset and Thermoplastics) located in our Nashville TN location.

     

    What do you get to do in this position?

     

    As an Associate Category, you are responsible to ensure the best Quality, Cost and Delivery Conditions of strategic plastic molding suppliers

     

    Aligned with the Corporate Strategy, you are in charge to implement the best terms and conditions with suppliers to achieve on a sustainable basis, the targets allocated to the team and the Purchasing Department (Yearly Productivities, Suppliers Quality & Deliveries performances):

    • Be the representative/voice for Schneider Electric to the suppliers in your category
    • Ensure category is meeting business needs with its suppliers and conducting business reviews with suppliers to communicate the needs and performance.
    • Manage the Request for Quotations and supplier selection in consistency with the commodity strategy.
    • Lead business risk evaluations in your category and devise a strategy to remove risk. Including but not limited to financial risk, capacity constraints, and long lead times.
    • Execute the supplier strategy by understand multiple business unit needs and translating that to supply that meet Schneider’s need. Including but not limited to securing growth, improving margins (pay terms, inventory, part price), rebalancing, ensuring quality, and delivery performance.
    • Identify/implement technical productivities (QVE), Supplier Change (COS) while collaborating cross functionally with internal teams to move quickly and with accuracy
    • Lead a global approach of category ownership including but limited to negotiation, should Cost, and lean initiatives for allocated suppliers.
    • Contribute to the purchasing database/tools updates by providing necessary information to commodity managers / supplier leaders/ purchasing assistant
    • Be the first escalation level for supplier crisis management.
    • Communicate Supplier strategy internally
    • Bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering, or related field
    • Negotiation and supplier relationship management skills 
    • 5 years of proven experience as category manager or similar role
    • Solid knowledge of category management, marketing, and sales principles
    • Understanding of data analysis and forecasting methods
    • Proficient in MS Office
    • An analytical mind with a strategic ability
    • Excellent communication and people skills
