Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Category Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. To be a Category Manager typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     Essential Function

    Responsible for the development, management and implementation of an overall procurement/sourcing process within assigned categories.     Evaluates and determines the most cost-effective and efficient means of sourcing, acquiring and delivering products and services, Manages and controls the sourcing and contractual relationship with service providers and vendors that reflect their specific category area. 

     Responsible for the development and implementation of category management processes based on industry best standards.   Responsible for the assigned categories, including developing strategic relationships with vendor partners; Analyze and source categories to deliver the most aggressive total cost of ownership while attempting to establish and develop core suppliers in each subcategory.  Works with leadership and is responsible for the development and execution of the procurement strategy which aligns and supports the business strategies. 

     Provides financial reporting and fiscal savings for the procurement organization, onboarding suppliers and SBH directed projects.

    The Procurement Category Manager will keep pace with the demands of a dynamic business climate, anticipate problems and develop appropriate solutions, and provide the leadership necessary to effectively implement these initiatives.  The Procurement Category Manager must, have strong leadership and interpersonal skills, communication skills both oral and written, and strong analytical skills

    Primary Duties 

    • 50%: Within an assigned category ownership, develop/build-up and maintain a key supplier base and manage category spend to facilitate spend analysis, RFPs, vendor selections, contract negotiations, risk mitigation and cost optimization. 
    • 20%: Develop relationships with internal business stakeholders to support in managing vendor performance, QBRs, upcoming contract/spend reviews, contract approvals, ROI business cases and contract terminations.  
    • 15%:   Sourcing to Contracting Lifecycle Management. Understands and utilizes concepts related to the lifecycle management of the RFP process, facilitating the redline contract process, vendor negotiations, to contract signature
    • 10%: Conduct Cost / Price Analysis, including bid comparisons, RFP analysis, price adjustment methodology, currency impacts along with the ability to capture and analyze all relevant cost components related to the total cost of a category, product or service
    • 5% : Fosters and builds strong vendor relationships, coordinates contract activities, including contract development, negotiation and transition.  Monitors supplier contracts to ensure terms and conditions are met.  Defines and manages appropriate supplier QBR’s.  Creates, negotiates and incorporates contract amendments, renegotiating contracts, if required, to accommodate scope changes or changes in organization requirement.  

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent with related experience and/or training. Procurement/Supply Chain certification is a plus.
    • Minimum of 5 - 7 years of business experience responsible for supplier onboarding, procurement, spend metrics and management experience.
    • Experience developing and using Key Performance Indicators to manage the procurement process.
    • Exhibit effective, strong communication skills to negotiate with suppliers, work effectively with global team members, and present performance results to upper management.
    • Experience using a procure-to-pay system.

    • Must have experience in the procurement processes for product, services, and knowledge of technology.
    • Demonstrates practical knowledge of procurement/sourcing best practices.
    • Understands and anticipates internal business and contract needs.

    • Demonstrates persuasion and influencing skills with adeptness in conflict management.
    • Self-motivated, a good communicator, a proven collaborator, open minded and passionate about building relationships.

    Working Conditions /Physical Requirements
    Indicate the normal working environment i.e. office, store, warehouse, etc. as well as any physical requirements required to perform the job duties (lifting requirement, dexterity, etc).

    • The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, retail stores, and residences or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, etc. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
    • The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, books, small parts; using a keyboard, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
