Category Manager develops the overall strategy for a product category and researches new product options in the category to drive sales and achieve targets. Leads a team that provides category insights and proposals by analyzing marketing and customer data and monitoring relevant market conditions. Being a Category Manager works closely with sales team to determine optimal pricing through analysis of sales trends, competitors, buying habits and planograms of products to promote sales opportunities. Provides effective promotional materials. Additionally, Category Manager may develop special arrangements with vendors to enhance product promotions. Requires a bachelor's degree of marketing. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Category Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. · Customer Service Skills:
o Greet customers throughout the day and provide assistance with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
o Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise.
o Answer phones and direct calls.
· Sales Skills:
o Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions and policies regarding payment and exchanges.
o Responsible for promoting and locating products that meet the customer’s needs.
o Assist customers with special order requests, ensuring appropriate follow-through.
o Proficient with point-of-sale system for cashiering.
· Organizational Skills:
o Maintain a clean and organized environment, including sweeping, mopping, and dusting.
o Participate in deep cleaning of the department according to department procedure.
o Loads baler and bundles bales.
o Maintains backstock in accordance with department standards.
· Receiving:
o Assist with stocking and unloading deliveries.
o Receive inventory, including checking for quality and expiration dates, and ensuring that all products are properly stored and rotated.
o Prepare merchandise for purchase. Ticket, arrange, and display merchandise to promote sales.
o Accurately note invoices with errors in the shipment.
· Inventory Management:
o Excellent awareness of products, location in the store/backstock, their sources and ordering procedures.
o Stock, rotate, merchandise, and face product according to department procedure.
o Maintain and consolidate backstock in accordance with department standards.
o Perform inventory counts as needed to meet department deadlines using the POS system.
o Perform temp checks on the refrigeration to ensure proper holding of product.
o Monitor inventory and alert Category Lead of potential stock issues.
· Security:
o Watch for and recognize security risks and thefts and know how to report these situations.
· Teamwork:
o Train other staff as needed.
o Assist in other departments as needed.
o Performs other duties as assigned to meet business needs.
