Category Manager develops the overall strategy for a product category and researches new product options in the category to drive sales and achieve targets. Leads a team that provides category insights and proposals by analyzing marketing and customer data and monitoring relevant market conditions. Being a Category Manager works closely with sales team to determine optimal pricing through analysis of sales trends, competitors, buying habits and planograms of products to promote sales opportunities. Provides effective promotional materials. Additionally, Category Manager may develop special arrangements with vendors to enhance product promotions. Requires a bachelor's degree of marketing. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Category Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. To be a Category Manager typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Summary
The Procurement Category Manager will work directly with the project engineering team to develop strategy for numerous multi-year capital projects. They will work with project stakeholders to identify and build a strategy to procure goods and services specific to the project. The Category Manager will maintain a project tracker, inclusive of budget and schedule. Category manager will facilitate regular coordination meetings with project group. Category manager will build strategies for spend analysis/mapping, external market analysis, and vendor management. He/She will lead project specific sourcing initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develops plan for projects with high-level criticality and complexity. Builds strong stakeholder relationships to prioritize and deliver projects.
- Manages strategic vendor relationships and performance to ensure delivery of service, quality, cost and supply commitments.
- Lead sourcing projects including RFI, RFP, RFQ and contract development.
- Initiation and negotiation of project related contracts. Owner of contract from start to project close.
- Own the development and execution, contract amendments, Letters of intent, and addendums.
- Resolution of contract disputes
Typical Education
Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university
Relevant Experience
3 years related experience and/or training
Required Certifications
Other Information
- Knowledge/experience in a commercial/industrial procurement role
- Working knowledge of industrial systems
- Good sales, presentation, negotiation, and market/data analytic skills
