Category Manager develops the overall strategy for a product category and researches new product options in the category to drive sales and achieve targets. Leads a team that provides category insights and proposals by analyzing marketing and customer data and monitoring relevant market conditions. Being a Category Manager works closely with sales team to determine optimal pricing through analysis of sales trends, competitors, buying habits and planograms of products to promote sales opportunities. Provides effective promotional materials. Additionally, Category Manager may develop special arrangements with vendors to enhance product promotions. Requires a bachelor's degree of marketing. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Category Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. To be a Category Manager typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     THIS POSITION IS REQUIRED TO BE WITHIN THE LOCAL GEOGRAPHICAL AREA OF PACIFIC, WA. ALTHOUGH THE POSITION IS REMOTE, ON SITE VISITS WILL BE REQUIRED ON A REGULAR BASIS.

     

    The Senior Category Manager at Toysmith is responsible for managing the business, financial, marketing and line plans for an assigned brand, category or distributed line. They will lead the cross functional team (planning, creative, marketing, operations, and sales) to achieve brand and product category financial objectives and growth with respect to revenue, margins/profitability, and adoption. 


    This position will also be responsible for identifying white space opportunities to drive sales and achieve targets. Manages product development process from ideation to market under general supervision with ability to exercise professional and experienced discretion.

    · Required to have a dedicated work area established

    · Familiarity with Zoom and/or Microsoft Teams


    Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

    · 5 years of experience in product development, preferably in a wholesale or retail toy company.

    · Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills – visual, written, and verbal.

    · Project management and problem solving - identify and resolve problems in a creative, collaborative, and timely manner with a view of the big picture and making difficult decisions.

    · Experience with Microsoft Applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel. 

    · Strong understanding of merchandising retail math/financial skills.

    · Attention to detail and appreciation of deadlines is essential.

    · Excellent communication, analytical and creative critical thinking skills are required.

    · Ability to manage multiple tasks in a deadline-oriented environment.

    · Ability to adapt to changing environments and priorities.

    · Must be able to work independently in performing job responsibilities.

    · Proven experience working with factories and product agents overseas.

    · Ability to reduce complex or detailed information into a concise format.

    · Ability to think and react in a fast-paced environment.

    · Excellent prioritization/organization/problem solving/decision making skills.

    · High level of initiative and professional ownership for work decisions and outcomes. 

    · Ability to perform multiple tasks and a variety of duties.

    · Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.

    · Must be a critical thinker and have professional communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders.

    · Microsoft Office literacy, Adobe knowledge highly preferred

    · International travel is required.


    Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Related Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent combination of Education and experience.
    • 2 years of product development work experience preferred
