Summary

We are a busy Kitchen & Bath Design company in Bergen County, NJ looking for Tile installers to work with our construction crews. Tile installers must be able to produce high level finish work. This job requires the highest attention to detail and the ability to perform manual labor for at least 8 hours per day.

Responsibilities

• The cutting of all tile by machinery or tools on the job site.
• The application of a coat or coats of mortar, prepared to proper tolerance to receive tile on floors, walls and ceilings, regardless of whether the mortar coat is wet or dry at the time the tile is applied to it.
• The setting of all tile with mortar, asphalt and/or sand where the bed is floated, screeded, slabbed or buttered.
• The setting of all tile by the adhesion method with organic and/or inorganic thin-bed bonding materials where such bonding material is applied to the backing surface and/or the back of tile units or sheets of tile.
• The rough-in, floating, screeding, beating, rubbing and finishing of all tile work, including the setting of all fixtures, rods, accessories, cap and tile, including all other preparatory work required to complete all the installations.
• The installation of waterproofing membranes, accessories, and the insertion of decorative tile inserts in other materials.
• The setting, sealing and installation of prefabricated tile systems.
• Problem solving on the fly
• Work individually with little to no supervision
• Ensure apprentices are producing quality work
• Build from drawings and plans
• Must be on time to work each day
• Keep a clean work area
• Notify the Supervisor when supplies are getting low
• Remove all Debris from worksite
• Report questions, comments and concerns to the Supervisor
• Seek additional responsibility and guidance from company management to enhance skills, learn new skills and create potential for advancement within the company requirements

A comparable amount of training knowledge and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Knowledge

· Must know how to read plans and blueprints

· Knows how to properly use power tools including: tile cutting tools

· Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers, fractions and decimals

· Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the construction trade

Experience

· 2 Years prior construction experience is needed

Abilities

· Manual dexterity

· Work individually with little to no supervision

· Get to and from work on time each day

· Flexible schedule

· Follow oral instruction

· Must own the following tools:

Mechanic – screw gun, bit set, drill bit set, measuring tape, 2’ level, hammer, sheetrock saw and knife, aluminum snips, crowbar, chalk line, screwdrivers (Phillips and Flathead), square, handsaw, pliers, channel lock, wrench, pencil, safety goggles and wood chisel

· Must pass the following company evaluations:

Safety Test

Supervisor working evaluation - 6 day evaluation of carpentry skills by a company supervisor

· Lift and carry items weighing up to 70 pounds

· Climb and work from ladders

· Capable of significant: standing, walking, moving, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing and pulling

· Work around dust and debris

· Establish and maintain friendly and effective working relationships with employees, colleagues, managers and clients.

Please Note:

Salary is based on experience, knowledge and productivity.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $25.00 per hour
