SUMMARY: The Certified Central Sterile Supply Technician inspects, assembles, packages and sterilizes surgical instrument pans, procedural trays, and technical equipment for the OR. Operates sterilizers, prepares and dispenses sterile items; performs inspection, adjusting, cleaning and general servicing of instruments and equipment for the OR, internal hospital departments and off-site agencies to insure instruments and equipment are operating properly prior to issuing. Maintains accuracy of 95% or higher. Maintains productivity 90% or higher. Able to assist with orientation of new employees. Facilitates the interactions between the SPD and OR. The decisions made by the Sterile Processing Technician, and the interpersonal skills used to implement those decisions, must foster an environment of caring and dedication among the employees. Serve as a role model to others in the department.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience working as a Central Sterile Instrument Technician or Surgical Technologist.
Certifications: CRCST, CSPDT or CST
Other: Ability to read, write and communicate effectively. Basic computer knowledge required.
Preferred Education: Associates degree or higher post-secondary education preferred.
Knowledge and expertise in at least one specialty service, i.e., Ortho; Neuro; Endoscopy; General/GYN/Robotics; ENT, Plastics/Ophthalmology/Dental; Cardiac/Vascular/Thoracic.

Lifts instrument trays up to 25 pounds multiple times during shift using proper body mechanics. Occasionally must wear face shield/mask and work in the presence of washers, decontaminators, Steris units and sterilizers. Must work with a variety of chemicals required in the decontamination and sterilization of instruments and equipment used in surgical cases.
