Ceramics Engineer develops manufacturing processes and equipment for converting ceramics into useful products. Tests various combinations of materials to create ceramics that that are durable and economical. Being a Ceramics Engineer researches and selects the appropriate hand and power tools to be used in the production process. Tests finished ceramics to ensure quality, consistency, and durability standards have been met according to specifications. Additionally, Ceramics Engineer requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. To be a Ceramics Engineer typically requires 2 to 4 years of related experience. Gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Visiting Artist – Studio Art (Ceramics)

  • The School of Art at Montana State University is accepting applications for a full-time, Visiting Faculty position in ceramics/sculpture. The School of Art offers MFA, BFA, and BA degrees in Studio Arts with an emphasis in ceramics and sculpture, as well as painting, printmaking and metal-smithing. The program focuses on the development of critical thinking and the skills necessary for successful employment within the creative industries.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    • Fall semester: Two Ceramics 1 courses (4-credits each), 1 Graduate Caucus course (3 credits)
    • Spring Semester: 1 Intermediate Ceramics course (5 Cr), 1 Ceramics 1 course (4 Credits)
    • Meet with Graduate and Undergraduate students beyond the classroom as may be appropriate to their educational needs
    • Committee service as assigned. (3 WLU per semester)
    • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours either on campus or online.
    • Maintain and submit grades in accordance with University policy.

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
    • MFA in ceramics/sculpture or appropriately related field.
    • Demonstrated ceramic process skills within areas from foundational through advanced levels.
    • Excellent communication skills, including verbal and written.

    Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
    • Previous teaching experience at the college or university level.
    • A record of scholarly creative work.
    • Experience in ONE or more of the following areas:
      • ceramic forming
      • material research
      • atmospheric firing

    • Teach ceramic/sculpture courses from foundational through advanced levels.
    • Pursue an active professional practice.
    • Collaborate on curriculum development and assessment
    • Contribute service to the university, the community, and the profession
