Ceramics Engineer develops manufacturing processes and equipment for converting ceramics into useful products. Tests various combinations of materials to create ceramics that that are durable and economical. Being a Ceramics Engineer researches and selects the appropriate hand and power tools to be used in the production process. Tests finished ceramics to ensure quality, consistency, and durability standards have been met according to specifications. Additionally, Ceramics Engineer requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. To be a Ceramics Engineer typically requires 2 to 4 years of related experience. Gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     Job Description Summary

    Selected applicants will be interviewed to establish a pool of approved instructors for possible part-time teaching assignments in the Fine Arts Division. Assignments may be day, evening, or weekend classes at the San Luis Obispo Campus, the North County Campus, South County Center, or distance education.
    Anticipated assignments are in: ceramics, sculpture. and/or 3-D design.

    Essential Functions & Qualifications

    Required:
    • Master's in fine arts, art, or art history from an accredited institution ;
    OR

    • Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in humanities from an accredited institution;
    OR

    • The equivalent. ((Candidates aplying on the basis of equivalency must submit all materials requested for an equivalency judgment. For directions on what is an acceptable equivalency argument please review the requirements listed on the HR Website .)
    OR

    • A valid Community College credential in the discipline (If received prior to 1990, as the credential is no longer being issued).
    Also Required:
    • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
    Desirable:
    • Teaching experience in the discipline, community college level preferred;
    • 3D experience in one or more of the following: ceramics experience AND/OR sculpture experience AND/OR 3D design;
    • Awareness of the philosophy and objectives of California Community Colleges.
