Purpose:
You will provide technical support for complex program activities by developing and applying advanced engineering theories, methods and research techniques in the investigation and solution of complex technical problems. You will also provide technical direction to and coordinate the efforts of engineers and technical support staff in the assigned programs by performing the following duties:
Major Position Responsibilities
- Ensures successful completion of assigned projects within budgeted time and cost constraints
- Supports proposal activities through the preparation of Basis of Estimates and technical summaries
- Identifies and escalates issues to management in a timely manner
- Implements existing and new ordnance designs for the U.S. Government and other commercial entities
- Participates in discussions with military authorities to determine characteristics desired in explosive material, nature of target objectives and types of delivery system to be used
- Identifies, recommends and incorporates a variety of complex actions associated with new product development and existing product improvements. These actions are developed to have a desirable effect on performance, cost, yields, quality and safety within schedule milestones and established budgets
- Develops Failure Modes and Effects Analysis to ensure that the designated product satisfies all Technical Date Packages (TDP) and customer requirements
- Develops investigatory plans/processes for plant and supplier trials and visits to determine performance capabilities
- Oversees process procedures to ensure that documentation is updated, accurate and understandable
- Prepares and oversees Change Proposals to define product, process, test methods, procedures, and any equipment required for implementation
- Participates and presents complex technical briefings to a multidiscipline audience
- Participates in meetings to support research personnel to clarify or resolve complex design issues
- Oversees the preparation of technical reports and engineering documentation (ECP, RFW, RFD, SOW, TDPL, BTR, QAP, PIP)
- Designs, reviews and evaluates complex designs for improving performance or other factors, or to obtain data for development
- Evaluates and reports the research of failure analysis including root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Develops cost reduction proposals and investigates proposals from other sources, compiles appropriate information, makes recommendations for action and monitors results obtained
- Directs and coordinates manufacturing or building of prototype products or systems
- Oversees complex engineering experiments to test, prove or modify theoretical propositions on the basis of research findings and experiences of others researching related technological areas
- Participates in the oversight of complex technical reports preparation for use by engineering or management for long and short range planning, or for use by sales engineering personnel in sales or technical services activities
- Participates in the coordination of prototype product and/or system builds
- Plans and develops experimental test programs
- Interfaces with management and employees to gather information and provides guidance for implementation

Basic Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Technology or Chemical Engineering and minimum 8 years related industry experience
- or PhD in Engineering with 2-3 years industry experience and/or training
- or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 25-50% of time, including possible international travel
Preferred Qualifications:
- Must be able to perform tasks with little direct supervision
- Experience in energetic materials field
- Experience within chemical manufacturing or the defense industry highly desired
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Internet software; Project Management software and Manufacturing software
- Strong engineering skills and understandings of the design and composition of most existing products and engineering/business processes and principles to perform the functions of the job
- Thorough understanding of Defense, Ammo, and/or Weapons products, business processes
- Strong computer skills, administrative data control, scheduling and team interface
- Demonstrates critical thinking and analysis skills
