Certified EHR Trainer conducts technical training programs for end users of EHR (electronic health record) software applications. Determines training objectives and creates lesson plans and other materials needed for training. Being a Certified EHR Trainer configures the training environment to ensure end-users can practice using EHR software both inside and outside of the classroom. Designs and delivers new hire training and ongoing user training during system changes and upgrades. Additionally, Certified EHR Trainer may be responsible for implementing a credentialed trainer program that ensures EHR instructors have the required level of system knowledge to effectively deliver training. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. Typically requires Epic/Cerner or similar certification. The Certified EHR Trainer gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Your responsibilities will encompass managing patient data, ensuring data accuracy, and facilitating access for authorized healthcare professionals. You will collaborate with IT teams, medical staff, and compliance officers to guarantee the integrity and security of EHR systems. This position operates with a high level of autonomy, allowing the employee to work independently with minimal direct oversight. They are encouraged to take the initiative, exercise independent judgment, and make decisions within the scope of their responsibilities, all while being open to seeking guidance or input when needed.

    EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

    • Input patient information, medical histories, treatment records, and other healthcare-related data into the EHR system. Regularly update and maintain patient records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
    • Manage user accounts and permissions within the EHR system, ensuring that authorized personnel have appropriate access. Implement user roles and security settings to protect patient confidentiality.
    • Enforce data security protocols to safeguard patient information and maintain compliance with healthcare privacy regulations, such as HIPAA. Conduct regular audits to identify and address security and compliance issues.
    • Provide technical support to healthcare professionals and staff using the EHR system. Troubleshoot and resolve EHR-related issues and assist with user training.
    • Generate various reports, including patient demographics, billing, and clinical outcomes, to support decision-making and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with other departments to extract and analyze data for operational improvements.
    • Identify opportunities to optimize the EHR system's functionality and efficiency. Coordinate system upgrades and enhancements in collaboration with IT and software vendors.
    • Conduct training sessions for new and existing staff on EHR system usage, policies, and procedures. Ensure that healthcare professionals understand how to use the system effectively.
    • Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery procedures to ensure data availability and integrity in the event of system failures or emergencies.
    • Maintain comprehensive documentation of EHR system configurations, policies, and procedures. Ensure that updated manuals and guides are readily available to staff.
    • Collaborate with other IT professionals, healthcare providers, and administrative staff to integrate the EHR system with other healthcare systems and processes. Participate in cross-functional teams to improve patient care and operational efficiency

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • An EHR Data Administrator possesses a strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, particularly HIPAA compliance, as well as a deep understanding of EHR systems and data security principles.
    • They excel in accurate data entry and management, exhibiting exceptional problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, while also being adept at data analysis and reporting.
    • Effective communication and a keen eye for detail are among their core skills.
    • Their abilities include enforcing data security and compliance, managing user access and permissions, optimizing EHR system functionality, providing training and education, and proficiently documenting policies and procedures.
    • Collaboration with cross-functional teams is another essential aspect of their role, ensuring the seamless integration of EHR systems with healthcare processes.
    • Excellent written communication and keyboarding
    • Excellent verbal communication with staff and outside companies
    • Time management and organization required
    • Some local and regional travel to Center offices
    • Stooping, bending, sitting, standing, crawling, climbing ladders, and keyboarding for prolonged periodsSafely lift and carry up to 15 lbs.
    • Ability to be CPR certified
    • Valid driver's license, liability insurance, and reliable transportation required

    Education and Experience

    • Experience in computer systems, data analysis, or database development and maintenance work. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in computer science, management information systems, or a related field is generally preferred. Education and experience may be substituted for one another.
