Certified Medication Technician administers prescribed medications to patients and maintains related medical records under immediate supervision. Administers medications using proper dosage, route, timing, and techniques. Being a Certified Medication Technician verifies the identity of the patient receiving medication. Records the name of the drug, the dosage, the time of administration, and any other relevant information on specified forms or records. Additionally, Certified Medication Technician takes vital signs and observes patient to detect response to medication. Follows all relevant safety guidelines and regulations. Requires a high school diploma. Requires Certified Medication Technician (CMT) certification. Typically reports to a registered nurse or manager.     Responsibilities of the Certified Medication Aide (CMA) II:

    • Accurately and safely prepare, administer, and document the oral and/or topical medications that are commonly used.
    • Provide basic nursing care as required, from checking vital signs to administering dressings, treatments, and taking tests.
    • Assist with medication charting as directed by the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse, as directed.
    • Notify the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse of all drug and narcotic discrepancies noted on your shift.
    • Review medication cards for completeness of information, accuracy in the transcription of the physician’s order and adherence to stop order policies.
    • Verify that adequate supply of floor stock medications, supplies, and equipment is on hand to meet thenursing needs of the residents.Report needs to the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse.

    Requirements of the Certified Medication Aide (CMA) II:

    • Valid Certified Medication Technician II license.
    • CPR certification.
    • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in directing/providing special care for seniors and/or persons with dementia, preferred.
    • Strong organizational skills, ability to be self-directed.
    • Experience in community or long-term care settings.
    • Geriatric assessment skills, knowledgeable in dementia care.
