Certified Medication Technician administers prescribed medications to patients and maintains related medical records under immediate supervision. Administers medications using proper dosage, route, timing, and techniques. Being a Certified Medication Technician verifies the identity of the patient receiving medication. Records the name of the drug, the dosage, the time of administration, and any other relevant information on specified forms or records. Additionally, Certified Medication Technician takes vital signs and observes patient to detect response to medication. Follows all relevant safety guidelines and regulations. Requires a high school diploma. Requires Certified Medication Technician (CMT) certification. Typically reports to a registered nurse or manager. Certified Medication Technician
The Medication Technician provides medication administration, direct resident care, assisting the resident to reach and maintain the highest level of functioning under the direction of a Registered Nurse in accordance with physician’s orders, company and industry standards and federal and state regulations. Encourages and promotes resident’s ability to adapt and adjust to living independently as speedily and safely as possible.
Minimal Education: High School graduate or G.E.D.
Minimal Experience: Minimum of three (3) months work experience in basic nursing procedures for nursing assistants.
Other Qualifications:
Successfully completed the Certified Medication Technician program and has current certification.
Successfully completed the Certified Nursing Assistant program and has current certification and current in required in-services.
Minimum age of 18 years or older is required for this position due to Department of Labor regulations.
