  • JOB SUMMARY

     The CRNA functions as a member of the Anesthesia team to provide safe, appropriate anesthesia care for a variety of patients.

    The CRNA demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Memorial HealthCare and
    strives for superior performance by consistently providing a product or service to leadership and staff that is recognized as ultimately contributing to the patient and family experience.  Recognizes and demonstrates understanding of patient and family centered care. 

     

    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Participate in providing anesthesia coverage so that anesthesia services are available twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week, fifty-two (52) weeks per year. Service areas to include:  Hospital’s operating rooms, lithotripsy area, magnetic resonance imaging area, diagnostic radiology area, ambulatory surgery area, endoscopy, cath lab, labor and delivery and any other area defined by Hospital.

     

    1. Anesthesia care needs include, but are not limited to the following:
    1. Full anesthesia coverage for scheduled surgical cases including preoperative evaluation, intraoperative anesthesia, and post-operative care.
    2. Continuous coverage and provision of services for labor and delivery including epidural anesthesia and general anesthesia for Cesarean Delivery, and continuous presence for high risk deliveries in accordance with Hospital policy.
    3. Continuous coverage and provision of service for emergency surgery including trauma patients. 
    4. Consultative services to ED physicians, surgeons, and Hospitalist physicians, as required. 
    5. Coverage of endoscopy.

     

    1. All clinical services shall follow best practice standards and drug protocols for the administration of anesthesia services to patients.

     

    1. Shall provide call coverage as follows:  Participate in scheduled call shifts to be divided among staff CRNA’s. 

     

    1. When available, respond to any emergency/urgent service request to any Hospital patient, including but not limited to, patients in general medicine, emergency department, behavioral health or skilled care, whose clinical status has changed and anesthesia is called for immediate medical intervention in the form of Rapid Response Team, or Code Blue Team. 

     

    1. Completion of all medical records and dictations, including the medical services and all drugs provided to patients, to be performed in a timely fashion and in accordance with Hospital policy.

     

    7.   Utilization of electronic medical records and the completion of all medical records in a timely fashion as per Hospital policy.

     

    8.   Advise administration and provide input regarding services and technology advances that would promote quality patient care.

     

    9.   Complete all necessary documentation to meet billing and compliance guidelines in accordance with Hospital policies.  Submit all paperwork necessary to permit Hospital facility billing upon completion of each business day.

     

    10.   Build and maintain positive relationships and maintain professional behavior and communication with other medical and Hospital staff members to include physicians, nurses, and others. 

     

    11.   Establish and maintain positive communication and behavior with Hospital patients and their families; including meeting with patients/families as requested by nursing and/or social work.

     

    12.   Assure adherence to shift start and end times and maintain a clinical presence within the Hospital at all times during agreed upon shifts.

     

    13.   Promptly respond to calls for assistance throughout the hospital.

     

    14.   A coordinated approach to utilization review and quality assurance and case management.

     

    15.   Participate in activities otherwise necessary to achieve the strategic objectives of Hospital.

     

    16.   Maintain a professional appearance, including wearing an ID badge at all times while on duty.

     

    17.   Demonstrates knowledge of and supports hospital mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality statements, corporate compliance plan, customer service standards, and the code of ethical behavior.

     

    DEPARTMENTAL AND ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Other duties as assigned
    2. CRNA agrees to be available to provide scheduled patient contact of forty (40) hours per week (not including on-call services). CRNA’s patient contact will be scheduled over a five-day work week unless mutually agreed upon by CRNA and Hospital

     

    JOB SPECIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION

    1. Graduate of approved CRNA program
    2. Current State of Michigan RN license
    3. Current State of Michigan CRNA Specialty Certification
    4. Current BLS/ACLS Certification
    5. CRNA shall maintain board certification by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).
    6. CRNA shall meet all continuing education requirements necessary to maintain CRNA’s nursing license, specialty certification and other certifications, and required registrations in good standing.

     

    EXPERIENCE

    1. A valid, unrestricted license and required certification(s) to practice as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in the State of Michigan.

     

    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL ABILITIES/MOTOR SKILLS

    1. Able to travel independently throughout all Memorial Healthcare facilities.
    2. Small motor skills required for operating modern computer, office, and telephone equipment as utilized by Memorial Healthcare (MHC).

    1. Proficiency using modern office, computer and telephone equipment as used by Memorial Healthcare.
    2. Maintain ability to utilize EMR as appropriate.

    1. Ability to adapt and maintain focus in fast paced, quickly changing or stressful situations.
    2. Ability to read and interpret a variety of documents including, but not limited to policies, operating instructions, white papers, regulations, rules and laws.

    1. Able to see for the purpose of reading information received in formats including but not limited to paper, computer, reports, bulletins, updates, manuals.
    2. Able to hear for work-related purposes.
