Certified Nurse Midwife provides professional care for patients with obstetric and gynecologic needs. Assists patients in labor and delivery, as well as postpartum care. Being a Certified Nurse Midwife ensures safety and health of mother and child and identifies need for additional care. Works in conjunction with a practicing physician. Additionally, Certified Nurse Midwife requires a bachelor's degree. Requires Certified as Nurse Midwife. Requires Registered Nurse. Requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Certified Nurse Midwife's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Certified Nurse Mid-wife functions as a primary healthcare provider for women and most often provides medical care for relatively healthy women, whose births are considered uncomplicated and not "high risk," as well as their neonates, including ante-partum, intra-partum, postpartum and nonsurgical gynecological care. (In hospital deliveries)EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Must have a Master’s Degree in Nursing. Current unrestricted MN License. Current registration certificate of DEA. American Midwifery Board Certification
SKILL(S):
- Strong communication skills are required to interact effectively with patients, family members, multidisciplinary team members, community agencies, and other resource providers
- Must possess skills to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form
- Possess time management skills
- Possess critical thinking skills
