    JOB SUMMARY

A Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) is a primary health care provider to women of all ages throughout the lifespan (Wyo. Stat. Ann. §26-43-202). CNMs focus on gynecologic and family planning services as well as preconception, pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum and newborn care and parent education. As an advanced practice nurse, the CNM strictly adheres to the rules, regulations, scope of practice and nursing practice standards as determined by the Wyoming State Board of Nursing and the Wyoming Midwifery Board.

In the State of Wyoming the CNM has full independent practice authority (Wyoming Board of Nursing Rules §3-2), and thus it does not require the supervision of a physician when caring for patients in the clinic/outpatient setting.  In the State of Wyoming, the CNM is authorized to prescribe prescription drugs and Schedules II – V controlled substances (Wyo. Stat. §33-21-120(a)(i)(A)).
