Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant assists an Occupational Therapist with rehabilitative activities for patients who may have developmental, physical and emotional impairments or who are recovering from injury. Prepares adaptive equipment used during treatment and supports patient activities. Being a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant documents therapeutic activities and details of patients progress. Requires an associate degree. Additionally, Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant requires NBCOT Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) certification. Typically reports to an occupational therapist. Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement. Position Summary:
Performs component of occupational therapy procedures and related tasks under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist and in accordance with practices of occupational therapy. Patient population ranges in age from 18 years to geriatric experiencing rehabilitation diagnosis/conditions and/or conditions requiring rehabilitation. Assist patients in achieving his/her maximum functional performance while learning to live within his/her capabilities. Record patient’s responses to treatment and report treatment outcomes to the Occupational Therapist.
Pay: Rate of pay is based on years of experience and qualifications.
Minimum Qualifications:- Current state licensure as an Occupational Therapy Assistant.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained from the American Heart Association and/or American Red Cross. Online certification is not acceptable.
Desired Qualification:- Inpatient rehabilitation experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements:- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, time management and prioritization skills.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Detail-oriented, able to meet strict time frames
