Prepares adaptive equipment used during treatment and supports patient activities. Being a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant documents therapeutic activities and details of patients progress. Requires an associate degree. Additionally, Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant requires NBCOT Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) certification. Typically reports to an occupational therapist. Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement. - Apply interventions to maximize safety and performance in activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL)
- Develop care plans using a variety of treatment techniques
- Create wellness-oriented programs tailored to patients’ specific needs
- Provide quality, personalized and evidence-based care and proven interventions
- Assure all treatment is delivered in accordance with an established plan of care
- Motivate patients during treatment in order to help them function optimally
- Consult and practice with other health professionals
- Evaluate effects and monitor and communicate progress to OT
- Document patient care services
Skills
- Proven work experience/background as a certified occupational therapist assistant
- Intensive education and clinical expertise
