Collects and analyzes sputum, blood, and breath specimens to determine levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other gases. Being a Certified Respiratory Therapist also measures the lung capacity of a patient to determine if there is an impairment. Requires an associate degree and a credential of Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT). Additionally, Certified Respiratory Therapist may be expected to maintain a CPR certification. Typically reports to a manager. Certified Respiratory Therapist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.   • Job Summary

     

    The Lead Respiratory Therapy will assist the management team at the Matawan Ventilator Unit. This position’s responsibilities includes, but not limited to, the following primary duties:

    Duties:

    • Working and or assisting with patients at site
    • Assist facility and Director of Respiratory with family meetings, admitting, discharging, and transferring patients
    • Assisting the Director of Respiratory Therapy with creating and managing vent six-week schedule including but not limited to making sure all shifts are covered and contacting employees to cover open shift or call outs
    • Trusted to cover day/night shifts that are not filled or called out, including weekends and holidays
    • Ensuring time and attendance records are accurate
    • Attend daily morning meetings if the Director of Respiratory is unavailable.  
    • Assure physician orders are accurate and carried out, delegating work as necessary
    • Timely and effective communications regarding departmental operations to Director of Respiratory Therapy and Regional team
    • Ensure supplies, respiratory office, and equipment are in satisfactory condition. Communicate any inventory or issues to the Director of Respiratory or Regional Team
    • Assist Director of Respiratory Therapy with staff training, education, and development
    • Compliance to all Policy/Procedures within the scope of respiratory services
    • Maintain personal hands on and visible supervision routinely on ventilator unit and any other assigned respiratory care floors/units
    • Exemplifying professional leadership conduct and character
    • Other duties assigned as needed

    Requirements:

    • Graduate of an approved school for respiratory care
    • Credential as either CRT or RRT by the National Board for Respiratory Care
    • Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner in good standing
    • CPR Certified (BLS)
    • Requires minimal to no supervision to comply with job responsibilities
    • Well spoken, high work level ethic and professional demeanor/character

     

    Would like to see:

     

    • Minimum of (5) years in acute/chronic respiratory care experience
    • Minimum of (2) years respiratory care supervision of personnel/services

     

    Physical/Mental Demands:

    • Able to lift a maximum of 20 pounds to shoulder height
    • Must be able to demonstrate effective time and multi-task management under moderately stressful conditions/environment
    • Must be able to ambulate moderate distances
    • Demonstrate eye/hand coordination with adequate finger dexterity in providing invasive and noninvasive respiratory care procedures
    • Able to work prolonged hours that may include double shift or off duty shift response to ensure the acuity staffing plan is in effect

     

    Physical and Emotional Demands: Good physical and emotional health, management skills, and communication skills.

     

    Exposure Risks: Normal work routine could involve exposure to blood and body fluids. Responsible for following OSHA guideline standard and the use of universal precautions.

     

    Working Conditions: Hours indicated by the residents and community's needs. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays. On call 24 hours a day for emergencies, in cooperation with other management staff.
