Certified Respiratory Therapist assists in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with pulmonary disorders. Collects and analyzes sputum, blood, and breath specimens to determine levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other gases. Being a Certified Respiratory Therapist also measures the lung capacity of a patient to determine if there is an impairment. Requires an associate degree and a credential of Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT). Additionally, Certified Respiratory Therapist may be expected to maintain a CPR certification. Typically reports to a manager. Certified Respiratory Therapist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned that may include checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam room; assisting patients as needed with walking transfer, collecting patient history, performing screenings per provider guidelines, charting, relaying instructions to patients/families.
- Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned that may include sending/receiving medical records, verifying and updating medical charts to ensure all information is complete.
- Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned that may include preparing and cleaning exam rooms, maintain infection control, ordering, sorting, storing supplies, and restocking exam rooms.
- Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned including respecting/ promoting patient rights; responding appropriately to emergency codes, sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisor.
- Fulfills clinical medical assisting responsibilities that vary according to state law, which may include medical asepsis, checking vital signs, exam preparations, drug administration, biohazard waste disposal, electrocardiogram, spirometry. Medical assistants must adhere to the MA scope of practice.
- Participation in scheduled staff in-services.
