    Position Summary

    The Governing Board for Pima Community College (PCC) is seeking a dynamic, effective, and forward-thinking leader to serve as the next Chancellor. PCC will welcome its next Chancellor at a pivotal time in its history as the college seeks to continue to build on its excellent reputation, build pathways for increased student enrollment, strengthen community partnerships, and grow.

    The Chancellor serves as the chief executive officer of PCC and is responsible for the executive management of the college’s operations. The Chancellor provides overall leadership in the planning and management of the academic, administrative, community outreach, fiscal, operational, and auxiliary enterprise missions of PCC. The Chancellor will continue to position PCC to better serve the critical needs of the community through community engaged learning opportunities.

    The Chancellor must be prepared to lead this multi-campus institution into the future and must have a strong background in financial management, teaching and/or student success, community involvement, relationship building and resource development. The Chancellor must foster a culture of trust, collegiality, innovation, and creativity across all facets of the institution and the regional community.

    PCC seeks an innovative and visionary leader who has:

    • Possession of the appropriate educational credentials. An earned doctorate from an accredited institution is preferred
    • Extensive professional executive experience including successes leading complex organizations
    • Demonstrated exceptional leadership and integrity in an academic and/or service environment
    • An established record of forward-thinking vision and innovation with proven record of growth and success
    • An alignment with the college’s values-based culture
    • A commitment to and proven record of community partnership and interprofessional collaboration

    The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include working evenings, weekends and local travel.


    Duties and Responsibilities:

    The Chancellor is responsible for providing transformative leadership, focus, and strategic vision for PCC in collaboration with the college’s executive leadership team and the Governing Board. The primary duties and responsibilities of the position are:

    • Oversees the development, administration, and coordination of all operations and programs of the institution
    • Establishes a clear vision for the institution and outlines appropriate strategic objectives and priorities, as well as the means to successfully achieve goals
    • Serves as an academic leader for PCC, with support from the provost, to ensure that Pima College provides a high-quality educational curriculum and talented faculty for the benefit of its students and teaching mission
    • Develops and implements plans and policies to ensure that Pima College remains in compliance with any accreditation requirements appropriate to the college
    • Provides leadership in growing the college’s student enrollment and completion while maintaining excellence in teaching and advancing creative scholarship
    • Champions innovative student learning and student success across the academic enterprise and college experience, including making meaningful, engaging connections with students
    • Fosters a sense of belonging through a commitment to a diverse student body, faculty, and staff and promotes opportunity through social justice commitments and actions
    • Actively works to ensure that the institution acquires the necessary public and private resources for successful achievement of the college’s goals and objectives
    • Drives fundraising activities by cultivating and stewarding donors that increase the college’s philanthropic support and address the needs of PCC’s programs
    • Works closely and fosters relationships with internal and external stakeholders including students, faculty, staff, alumni and donors, community leaders, and military and regional partners
    • Understands the importance of the governmental process and possesses the skills to ensure that legislative goals on the local, state, and federal levels are identified and met
    • Possesses the ability to work effectively in partnership with other university and college leaders, community organizations, and other partners
    • Carries out other leadership duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Governing Board
    • Cultivates partnerships with business, industry, labor, and K12; a demonstrated commitment to workforce development and Adult Education programs; proficiency in marketing an educational enterprise to a variety of groups and individuals, and an ability to utilize all communication methods available
    • Ability to promote constructive and effective shared governance, including with employee organizations

    • Possesses an outstanding reputation for executive-level management with documented ability to administer and coordinate all operations and programs of the institution and to lead and manage change and growth
    • Merits broad-based respect to inspire institutional accountability, efficiency, fiscal responsibility, and the ethical and effective performance of all leaders and divisions of PCC
    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure efficient operations throughout the organization while fostering growth in enrollment, supporting creative and scholarly productivity, and upholding high academic standards
    • Successful record leading a financially complex institution to ensure proper administration of the financial affairs of PCC
    • Understanding of the workings of a large community college along with knowledge of and/or experience with the business operations of large and comprehensive organizations
    • Innovative and forward thinking with the ability to bring the right people to the table, from all levels of the organization, to focus on successful achievement of common goals and objectives
    • Possesses a sincere commitment to student engagement, student life, and student success
    • Is a deliberate, approachable consensus builder with a broad vision, and the ability to move to action and be an active and engaged listener
    • Superb communication skills and the ability to be a listener who is open to a variety of views both inside and outside the college
