Position Summary

The On-Call Chaplain is responsible for responding to the emergency pastoral needs of patients, patient families, and employees.

Minimum Qualifications

Education
-
Bachelor degree or equivalent experience required.

Credentials

Denominational affiliation in good standing required.

Completion of CPI training preferred.

Physical Demands
-
Self-ambulate while on call. Ability to speak, hear, and see required. Ability to respond to emergency needs regardless of the hour of day or night.

Essential Functions
-
Attends and supports patients, families and employees in time of emotional and spiritual need. Visits inpatients who request a chaplain visit. Charts patient visits in medical record. Responds to staff consults for patient visits. Responds to all trauma and code blue cases in the hospital. Provides support to staff members/families upon request. Conducts funerals when requested by persons with whom the Chaplain has developed a significant relationship.

Maintains collaborative relationship with local/area ministers. Contacts local/area pastors when requested to do so by patients. Collaborates with area clergy in meeting communal needs of patients, family members and staff as requested.

Completes NetLearning. Attends monthly staff meetings. Fulfills assigned continuing education.

Responds to consults regarding patient and family member requests for information and implementation of Advance Directives.

Collaborates with Hospice to assure provision of spiritual care for patients and families.

Collaborates with Ethics Team as requested.

Collaborates with Hospital Incident Command System (HICS). Participates in Mass Casualty drills, preparation, and events.

Maintains the hospital Chapel to the extent that it is kept organized, neat and clean. Makes brochures and Bibles available as needed.
