JOB SUMMARY:
Reviews entire Emergency Room chart, including triage, nursing and physician documentation and physician orders to accurately identify and assign appropriate facility level, nurse procedure and supply charges. The Charge Capture Specialist serves as a communication link between Emergency Department staff and physicians/advanced practice clinicians, HIM, Patient Financial Services, and other reimbursement specialists in discussing issues, making recommendations, proposing solutions and answering questions related to patient charges, auditing and the charge master.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
High school diploma or GED required.
Experience
Familiarity with CPT and ICD-9 coding preferred. In-depth knowledge of medical terminology required. Training or experience in a related healthcare field preferred but not required. On-the-job training may be provided depending on the skills, training and experience.
Licensure/Credentials
Coding certification preferred.
