Charge Nurse plans, directs, and evaluates the overall nursing care and functions in a particular nursing unit or during an assigned shift. Coordinates the activities of the unit and directs, organizes, and assigns work to the nursing staff. Being a Charge Nurse assesses, monitors, and educates the nursing staff on patient care. Institutes emergency procedures as necessary. Additionally, Charge Nurse requires a bachelor's degree. Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Charge Nurse supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a Charge Nurse typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     The Charge Nurse – Registered Nurse duties to include but not be limited to:

    • Provides the best possible nursing care by planning, organizing, and directing the nursing functions of the patients and residents within the facility.
    • Supervises and evaluates the performance of Ward Clerk and Nursing Assistants with recommendations for appropriate action.
    • Creates a working environment that provides growth and job satisfaction to personnel.
    • Participates in and accepts responsibility for the development, implementation, and/or evaluation of Quality Improvement activities for the nursing unit as directed by the DON.
    • Evaluates and documents effectiveness of and patient’s response to nursing care, medications, treatments and/or procedures, as appropriate.
    • Administers medications and intravenous solutions skillfully, correctly, as ordered, and per professional nursing standards.


    REQUIREMENTS:
    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current active license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Montana.
    • BLS (AHA) certified within two months of hire.
    • ACLS and PALS within six months of hire.
    • TNCC certified within six months of hire.
