Charge Nurse plans, directs, and evaluates the overall nursing care and functions in a particular nursing unit or during an assigned shift. Coordinates the activities of the unit and directs, organizes, and assigns work to the nursing staff. Being a Charge Nurse assesses, monitors, and educates the nursing staff on patient care. Institutes emergency procedures as necessary. Additionally, Charge Nurse requires a bachelor's degree. Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Charge Nurse supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a Charge Nurse typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Provide direct nursing care to residents, implements care plans, assists/does MDS’s as assigned in time frame directed and attends care conferences as part of interdisciplinary team (IDT) in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, regulations and policies and procedures of the facility to ensure highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.
Assist with supervising day-to-day nursing activities performed by CNA staff on resident/patient floor in accordance with current rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines that govern facility.
