Charge Nurse plans, directs, and evaluates the overall nursing care and functions in a particular nursing unit or during an assigned shift. Coordinates the activities of the unit and directs, organizes, and assigns work to the nursing staff. Being a Charge Nurse assesses, monitors, and educates the nursing staff on patient care. Institutes emergency procedures as necessary. Additionally, Charge Nurse requires a bachelor's degree. Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Charge Nurse supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a Charge Nurse typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. The Charge Nurse position is responsible for supervising employees in the administration of efficient nursing care of patients on 3rd shift.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:- Provides supervision to nursing care staff.
- Makes regular rounds to check on residents.
- Ensures proper coverage so residents have adequate care.
- Provides clinical nursing care.

Minimum RequirementsEDUCATION: See Special Requirements.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have two years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A bachelor's degree in nursing will substitute for one year of the required experience.
