Coordinates the activities of the unit and directs, organizes, and assigns work to the nursing staff. Being a Charge Nurse assesses, monitors, and educates the nursing staff on patient care. Institutes emergency procedures as necessary. Additionally, Charge Nurse requires a bachelor's degree. Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Charge Nurse supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a Charge Nurse typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Harbor Village Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, a Short-Term Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility located in a quaint location of New London.
We are looking for a reliable Charge Nurses to care for geriatric patient population in a professional and considerate manner. You will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse Supervisor. The ideal candidate will be experienced in Long term care setting and in providing diverse basic care to those who need it.
Responsibilities
· Record patient’s medical history
· Administration of medications and treatments
· Observe patients under treatment to identify progress, side-effects of medications etc.
· Monitor patients’ condition including fluid intake and output and compose patient charts
· Administer injections, prescribed medications, enemas etc., clean and dress wounds and assist with other basic medical care tasks
· Collect samples for lab testing
· Oversight of assigned staff members on your unit
· Provide emotional support when needed
· Communicate with patients’ family or friends to provide comfort and release instructions
· Good knowledge of PCC desired but not required
