POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for all direct resident care during the assigned tour of duty. He/she is to provide direction, supervision and evaluation of resident care. Implements facility policies, procedures and coordinates nursing activities with other services provided by members of the health care team.

Job Responsibilities
- Receive report from prior shift nurse, walking visual check of all residents, and take keys.
- Assign CNA's hall and rooms. Explain any pertinent information regarding resident care and explain all assignments to CNA's.
- Supervise passing of nourishments and snacks.
- Prepares and administers medications (PUNCH-INITIAL-PASS), tube feedings and treatments as ordered. (NOTE: DOCUMENT ALL MEDICATIONS, TUBE FEEDINGS AND TREATMENTS AS ADMINISTERED.)
- Assures that all resident call lights are answered promptly. (Carry charge nurse pager at all times)
- Orders medications as needed, according to facility procedures.
- Receives medication delivery from pharmacy and checks all drugs received. Documents proof of medications received, according to facility policy. Places pharmacy receipt in tray.
- Supervises all resident care and assists with direct resident care as needed.
- Observes, evaluates, reports and records all changes in residents' condition.
- Notifies physicians, when necessary, of changes on residents' conditions, weight changes, medication errors, medication not available, abnormal lab/X-ray results, IV status and any other information as necessary.
- Administers PRN medications and treatments as necessary.
- Administers medication and treatments as ordered.
- Participates in care team meetings as requested.
- Documents in nurses notes per facility policy; daily on Medicare patients, once during 7 day MDS assessment period, daily for residents on alert charting. Reviews and revises resident care plan when charting and as needed.
- Duties as assigned by Director of Nursing and/or Administrator.
- Continues tasks not finished by prior shift.
- All other duties assigned.
