Charge Nurse plans, directs, and evaluates the overall nursing care and functions in a particular nursing unit or during an assigned shift. Coordinates the activities of the unit and directs, organizes, and assigns work to the nursing staff. Being a Charge Nurse assesses, monitors, and educates the nursing staff on patient care. Institutes emergency procedures as necessary. Additionally, Charge Nurse requires a bachelor's degree. Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Charge Nurse supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a Charge Nurse typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Oversee primary caseload of hospice patients and provide skilled professional nursing care to them, their families, and caregivers as prescribed by the physician and in compliance with the Hospice Medicare Conditions of Participation, PA hospice licensure laws, and agency policies and procedures. Provide the initial assessment and comprehensive nursing assessment of patient needs, and collaborate to develop the interdisciplinary group plan of care. Implement the plan of care and reevaluate and revise the Plan of Care relative to the patient’s nursing needs to provide appropriate, comprehensive, and responsive goals and interventions. Work closely with other members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure all patient and family care needs are being met.
