Chemical Dependency Counselor runs individual, family, and group counseling for patients in chemical dependency programs.     The Center for Family and Child Enrichment (CFCE) is dedicated to help children and their families by providing the right services and solutions based on individual needs.  CFCE is constantly evolving to better support our community.

    As a Dependency Case Manager Apprentice, you will learn the position of Dependency Case Manager and the Child Welfare System.  This position entails a training class that is run by our lead agency as well as shadowing current dependency case managers to learn the job. The training class is followed by a certification test administered by the Florida Certification Board.

     Some of the Functions Include:

    • Learn to conduct child safety assessments, home studies. Review available records regarding the child’s family history, school behavior, medical or mental health history, etc.
    • Identify and explore potential resources that will facilitate family preservation, early family reunification, or alternative permanency planning.  Coordinate the delivery of referrals, linkage, and services to client and families with other professionals.
    • Assist in ensuring that the court approved plans for the child and family is being implemented.  Monitor case plan, obtain reports from service providers, and evaluate family needs to expedite permanency of children.
    • Prepare judicial review reports according to CFCE and State of Florida operating procedures.  Explain the court proceedings to the child, if age appropriate and ensure active involvement and participation.
    • Staff cases with supervisor, DCF attorneys, and other professionals as required. Communicate the needs of the child and family to the court in written report.  Testify at court or CRP regarding reunification, termination of parental rights, or other permanency plan for children. 
    • Provide support to children, caregivers, and family members to assure stability and timely achievement of permanency.  Assist family and/or caregivers in accessing subsidy, medical coverage, and other needed services for children.
    • Communicate and coordinate services, when applicable, with the child’s teacher, probation officer, therapist, foster parent/caregiver, etc.

    Minimum Education

    • Bachelor’s Degree in a human services related field from an accredited university

     Minimum Experience

    • Twelve months of relevant experience working with children and families if Bachelor’s degree is in a non-human services related field

    Skills Needed

    • Must be computer literate
    • Excellent assessment skills and intervention strategies
    • Ability to perform at a high level of autonomy or with minimal supervision
    • Ability to observe and report accurately on the functioning of individuals and families
    • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately
    • Ability to identify and understand environmental stressors
    • Ability to set appropriate limits and boundaries with clients
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Organize work activities in order to accomplish various required tasks simultaneously.
