Chemical Dependency Counselor runs individual, family, and group counseling for patients in chemical dependency programs. Acts as mediator between patients, relatives, medical staff, and outside agencies if needed. Being a Chemical Dependency Counselor tracks patient progress and dispensation of treatment services. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent; meets the standards for Chemical Dependency Counselor Certification Board, or other appropriate certification. Additionally, Chemical Dependency Counselor typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Chemical Dependency Counselor's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Qualifications
Licensed as an LPC, LPC-A, LCSW, CCJP, CCJP-A, LCDC, or CI in the State of Texas. An LCDC who holds a master’s or other advanced degree must complete at least 24 hours of continuing education during each two-year licensure period. An LCDC who does not hold a master’s or other advanced degree must complete at least 40 hours of continuing education.
Prefer graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in education, social work, behavioral science, or related field, or graduation from an accredited senior high school with two (2) years’ work experience in substance abuse counseling. Extensive knowledge of alcohol and drug abuse and its psychological and social effects.
