Chemical Dependency Director directs chemical dependency and substance abuse treatment and recovery programs. Leads, supports, and develops care team members.     Sargent & Lundy’s Government Services Division provides cutting-edge engineering design and consulting support to the management and operating contractors for US Department of Energy (DOE) sites and national laboratories. Specifically, we support the DOE Environmental Management Directorate as well as the National Nuclear Security Administration laboratories and sites. What does this mean? You can be a part of multi-discipline design teams supporting projects cleaning up the environmental damage associated with the legacy nuclear weapons production complex and/or preserving our country’s nuclear deterrent. Sargent & Lundy’s personnel design facilities, systems, and equipment that treat, store, and dispose of nuclear waste as well as systems that safely handle and process nuclear material. This mission-critical work is meaningful and challenging – work you can be proud of.

     

    This is a senior-level design engineering position that offers a variety of challenging opportunities in Chemical/Process Engineering and will provide an excellent opportunity for career advancement. 

     

    You will utilize your academic background to conduct the design of processes on both new and modified systems. In addition, evaluations and reviews of both new and existing energy and industrial facilities to prepare comprehensive reports and calculations in support of assessing proposed system designs, upgrades, modifications, and equipment/system replacements.

    • Lead process engineering design efforts on multi-disciplined project design team
    • Responsible for the production of engineering calculations/analyses, design drawings, specifications, and engineering reports.  Ensure that calculations and deliverables are technically sound and in accordance with project requirements.
    • Support hazard and safety analyses
    • Support risk management analyses.
    • Monitor the work of assigned staff on technical matters pertinent to project assignments; Maintain assigned tasks within schedule and budget to fit the needs of the projects
    • Use effective written and oral communication skills to convey information to project team members and managers
    • Present written technical information in a clear and concise manner in all deliverables
    • Prepare reports and deliverables that are clearly understood and meet client requirements; Communicate clearly in meetings with client and summarizes meeting notes in a clear and timely manner
    • Perform radiation shielding analyses in support of nuclear facility clients in MicroShield
    • Perform system reliability analysis using fault trees, event trees, and reliability block diagrams using BlockSim or similar software.
    • Perform work under an NQA-1 quality assurance program.
    • Provide technical guidance to project team members
    • Attend project meetings and perform field walkdowns
    • May mentor new engineers

    Qualifications

    Must be a U.S. Citizen; Dual citizenship with a country other than the U.S. does not qualify.

     

    Essential skills and experience: 

    • This position requires a BS in Chemical Engineering or MS in Chemical Engineering from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program with a strong academic background
    • A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in civil and Chemical/Process engineering
    • An understanding of the practical application of chemical/process engineering and technology, including applying systems, principles, techniques, and procedures to a project design, and mass and heat balances
    • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail
    • Ability to quickly identify and prioritize issues, create solutions, and meet deadlines
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Proficiency with MS Office applications

    Valued but not required skills and experience:

    • Professional Engineering (PE) Licensure
    • Knowledge of any of the following programs: ASPEN or similar process modeling software, MicroShield, MCNP, Crystal Ball, BlockSim, and Microsoft applications
    • Familiarity with major federal environmental regulatory programs such as the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act
    • Multiple years of experience in a nuclear environment (DOE preferred, commercial or Navy), highly desirable
    • Experience with nuclear materials/wastes and their associated processes

    Salary Range

    $119,000-$142,000
