Designs experiments and builds prototypes and models used to investigate and support the development of improved chemicals, materials, products, and manufacturing processes. Being a Chemical Engineer compiles and analyzes testing data. Presents research results used to estimate costs, establish performance standards, identify solutions, and facilitate processes. Additionally, Chemical Engineer maintains lab and plant safety procedures for chemical storage, handling, transport, and disposal. Complies with all safety and environmental regulations. Requires a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. Typically reports to a manager. The Chemical Engineer work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Operations Manager- Chemical Plant

  • Our company is seeking a dedicated and experienced Operations Manager for our Chemical Plant. Reporting directly to the VP of Operations, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and managing the daily production of plant personnel. This role is integral to ensuring the productivity, quality, and optimization of plant operations. The Operations Manager will also be responsible for metrics reporting, maintaining equipment functionality, and planning the rollout of new products through the facility.

    Responsibilities

    • Oversee and administer daily production of plant personnel.
    • Review new product opportunities and develop written procedures for scale-up and full-scale operations.
    • Track and report KPI data for critical metrics including production volumes, capacity, labor costs, and product mix.
    • Develop and maintain processes for Management of Change for critical quality system and operational documents and procedures.
    • Anticipate and prepare for upcoming projects and processes, overseeing equipment changeovers, new equipment design and installation.
    • Administer the creation of item codes in the ERP system for Work Order generation, quality parameters, and costing of new products.
    • Initiate comprehensive investigative root-cause analyses following any quality or safety incident.
    • Facilitate vendor, executive, and customer plant walkthroughs and audits.
    • Troubleshoot equipment issues that cause work stoppages with the Maintenance team.
    • Mentor the Plant Supervisor and leadership team, providing guidance and training as needed.
    • Develop and implement practical work schedules for plant personnel.
    • Address disciplinary issues directly with their team, implementing corrective actions.
    • Facilitate interdepartmental communication between Customer Service, Scheduling, Supply Chain, and Logistics.
    • Participate in the Inventory Control process with cycle-counting and tracking and managing periodic wall-to-wall physical counts.
    • Oversee the general organization and cleanliness of the work area.
    • Identify safety concerns and work directly with EHS to implement solutions.
    • Participate in staffing functions such as development of job descriptions, reviewing prospective employee applications, arranging and performing hiring interviews, screening and onboarding of new employees.
    • Administrate and track payroll metrics for employees, perform performance and bonus reviews, monitor overtime and labor costs.
    • Develop procedures for packaging, including container suitability qualifications, labeling, and proper closures.
    • Backfill the roles of critical personnel including the Plant Supervisor, Scheduler, and Shipping and Receiving Lead as required.
    • Coordinate facility infrastructure repair and improvements.

    Qualifications

    • Proven experience in a similar role within a chemical plant or related industry.
    • Strong leadership and team management skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues.
    • Experience with ERP systems and KPI tracking.
    • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures within a chemical plant environment.
