The Valent BioSciences manufacturing site located on an expansive 73-acre site in Osage, IA is a state of the art 130,000 square foot plant and is the largest purpose-built biorational facility in the world. It serves as the manufacturing and quality control center for Valent BioSciences broad portfolio of fermentation products.

Description of Job:

As the Controls Engineer at Valent BioSciences, you will be responsible for controls systems design, specifications, programming, simulation, testing, troubleshooting and start-up assistance across a multi-product batch fermentation facility under distributed control system (DCS) control architecture. You must have an understanding of S88 Batch Control and have proven experience in PLC logic and programming with any of the following PLCs: Allen Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, or similar. You must have proven experience in HMI and SCADA programming and configuration of any of the following software packages: Delta V, Rockwell, Wonderware, or similar.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ability to work hands in in the facility to troubleshoot issues and commission new equipment.

• Programming and troubleshooting of continuous and batch process system controls in a DCS controlled fermentation facility.
• Provides expertise to optimize control system functionality used for monitoring and controlling plant operations.
• Reviews operating control systems and coordinates activities related to the development of the project’s scope and schedules.
• Assist in design and commissioning of plant control systems additions, new installation, and process modifications.
• Work with onsite and offsite contractors and vendors to ensure targets and goals are aligned to complete projects in a timely and cost-effective manner.
• Ensures operations are in accordance with safety requirements.
• Interfaces with Operations group for control systems optimizing and process improvements.
• Project management skills for projects involving automation, new and changes to existing equipment. 
• Maintains the design and specifications for controls equipment and instrumentation.
• Installation and technical support of PLC based hardware and software.
• Additional duties as required.

 Preferred Qualifications and Education:

• Bachelor's degree in industrial or electrical engineering and four years of experience in a manufacturing environment or Associates Technical degree in automation and 6 years of experience.
• Pharmaceutical, Food and Beverage and/or Consumer Products experience is a plus.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team to accomplish goals. 
• Experience with managing multiple priorities and projects at the same time. 
• Strong attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Proficient in applicable computer software along with the ability to troubleshoot and analyze issues with various computer programs and software.
