Chemical Engineer conducts research and development projects involving the study of chemical reactions and material properties to innovate and develop new products or optimize existing products. Designs experiments and builds prototypes and models used to investigate and support the development of improved chemicals, materials, products, and manufacturing processes. Being a Chemical Engineer compiles and analyzes testing data. Presents research results used to estimate costs, establish performance standards, identify solutions, and facilitate processes. Additionally, Chemical Engineer maintains lab and plant safety procedures for chemical storage, handling, transport, and disposal. Complies with all safety and environmental regulations. Requires a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. Typically reports to a manager. The Chemical Engineer work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.     The Superintendent, Chemical Operations reports to the General Manager.

    This position is located in our nitroegn chemical production facility inKennewick, Washington, U.S.A. and is not available for remote work.

    What you will do:

    • Meet plant targets in safety, production, operating cost, quality, and environmental performance
    • Support, coach, and develop operations personnel including the four shifts to ensure their work is focused on delivering site Key Performance Indicators
    • Supervisory responsibilities include personnel development activities, team direction, and building and performance counseling
    • Coordinate operations through the Supervisors including day to day issues between the operations, maintenance, and technical areas
    • Provide planning for longer term (2 to 5 years) operations
    • Work with commercial teams to meet and achieve short term and long term forecasts
    • Facilitate the resolution of unit production issues I.E. shutdowns, equipment replacements, product quality, etc.
    • Participate in the development of the department budget and is accountable to operate within the budget
    • Support the Management of Change (MOC) process

    What you will bring:

    • High School diploma or equivalent
    • 7 or more years of production experience in similar industry
    • Capable of understanding complex chemical processes and equipment
    • Solid organizational, communication, supervisory, team, and interpersonal skills
    • Working knowledge of work redesign concepts and change management principles
    • Demonstrated ability to solve problems using standard techniques, unique approaches, and through the involvement of others
    • Ability to interface between operating group and maintenance, technical, and external teams
