Chemical Engineer conducts research and development projects involving the study of chemical reactions and material properties to innovate and develop new products or optimize existing products. Designs experiments and builds prototypes and models used to investigate and support the development of improved chemicals, materials, products, and manufacturing processes. Being a Chemical Engineer compiles and analyzes testing data. Presents research results used to estimate costs, establish performance standards, identify solutions, and facilitate processes. Additionally, Chemical Engineer maintains lab and plant safety procedures for chemical storage, handling, transport, and disposal. Complies with all safety and environmental regulations. Requires a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. Typically reports to a manager. The Chemical Engineer work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Summary: Conducts established activities of a chemical laboratory technician by performing the following duties for an industrial organization.
Essential duties and Responsibilities include the following as they relate to mil-spec painting, anodizing types I, II, and III, chem film class 1A and 3, passivation and phosphate coatings. Other duties may be assigned.
Test solutions used in anodizing and Chem-film processes for chemical concentrations.
Maintain chemical inventory stock to ensure adequate supplies.
Calibrate, setup, adjust and operate laboratory equipment and instruments such as microscopes, spectrophotometer, pH meter and other lab equipment.
Add chemicals or raw material to process solutions to correct or prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas.
Record test results in computer and maintain records, reports, files and related documentation.
Order laboratory supplies, materials, or equipment.
Maintain established procedures concerning quality assurance.
Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and facility.
Follow written procedures for Chemical hygiene safety.
