Being a Chemical Plant Operator follows standard operating procedures and performs in process quality checks to identify and resolve issues during processing. Troubleshoots problems with equipment, respond to system notifications and makes required adjustments as needed. Additionally, Chemical Plant Operator enters required production data and information into logs. May unload or move materials. Follows all procedures for safe material handling and required safety gear. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or team leader. The Chemical Plant Operator works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. This position is responsible for operating and maintaining the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). This a journey level position which performs a variety of operating, maintenance and testing activities related to wastewater treatment. Work is performed within established procedures and with priorities and deadlines established according to city, state and/or federal wastewater treatment requirements. Employees in this class work independently with supervision mainly exercised over outcomes and products rather than work processes, and employees are expected to keep supervisors informed of problems.
Other duties may be assigned as needed.

This position works a regular schedule, however, incumbents may be called in to work at irregular times in emergency situations, and incumbents must be available for call-out as needed.
