  • Duties

    • Installs, maintains, and repairs water and wastewater treatment systems and equipment.
    • Analyzes defects and determines the extent of repairs required.
    • Exercises a knowledge of a variety of nonproduction equipment and machinery such as pumps, chlorinator heads and gear boxes, chemical feed systems and treatment tanks.
    • Examines equipment or machine components for excessive wear and makes replacement as required.
    • Inspects equipment in accordance with established schedules assuring proper adjustments to and operation of the mechanism.

    • Employee is able to respond effectively to emergencies by familiarizing them with routine and emergency procedures, emergency equipment, and emergency systems, including where applicable procedures for shutdown of operations.
    • This position requires you to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment and annual physical examination.

    Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator ~ without more than normal supervision. (1) Control flow rates to suit conditions (e.g., rate of flow, concentration and type of influent) as well as levels in influent storage tanks (2) Conduct wastewater tests using various testing equipment and measuring devices; (3) Make chemical analyses according to standard methods to determine concentrations in untreated and chromium, ferro and terricyanide; (4) Make changes in treatment process and/or make temporary repairs to equipment; and (5) Install, maintain, and repair water and wastewater treatment systems and equipment and Analyze defects to determine the extent of repairs required. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
    • Physical Effort: Handles objects weighing 45 pounds and occasionally carries objects weighing 45 pounds and over for considerable distances. Required to push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crawl, kneel, bend, and work in cramped positions over and under machinery of all types for sustained periods of time.
    • Working Conditions: Work is usually performed inside areas that are adequately lighted, ventilated, and heated and occasionally works outside for short periods of time where there is exposure to prevailing weather conditions. Occasionally works in confined spaces. Flood and deck surfaces are sometimes uneven, oily, and slippery. Frequently exposed to moving objects and sharp edges with the possibility of cuts and bruises. Occasionally climbs and works from ladders and stagings allowing the possibility for serious injury from slipping and falling. Exposed to constant noise, rotating machinery, dirt, grease, chemicals, oils, and fumes in work areas. Works with and neutralizes potentially toxic chemicals. Uses various protective devices such as hard hats, gloves, safety shoes, aprons, boots, coveralls, safety glasses, respirators, and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
