Chemical Technician determines the physical and chemical properties of compounds and materials using quantitative and qualitative chemical analysis. Performs a variety of chemical tests using instrumental methods and standard test equipment. Being a Chemical Technician prepares materials for laboratory examination and conducts quality, safety, and compliance assessments. Follows established SOPs. Additionally, Chemical Technician sets up and maintains lab equipment. Records and tabulates data and documents observations and results. Requires an associate degree in chemistry, science or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Chemical Technician works under moderate supervision. Physical Demands:
The applicant must be able to move up to 1000 lb liquid nitrogen cylinders and other large gas cylinders using proper tools; be able to lift, handle, and dispense from 5 gallon pails and to be able to move, handle, and dispense from 55 gallon drums. Occasional lifting and manipulation of objects less than 50 pounds may be required. Handling of chemicals, including isocyanates, polyols, amines, fluorocarbons, hydrocarbons, and other hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals is required.
Work Environment:
The applicant is expected to work safely at all time and to actively participate in the group's safety program. The applicant must have strong communication skills in a team environment where hard project deadlines are often encountered. In order to be qualified for this position, applicants must be able to wear safety shoes, chemical goggles, safety glasses with side shields, and respiratory equipment.
