NJDWSC has an immediate opening at our offices in Wanaque, NJ, for a Chemist to join the
Water Quality Lab department. As a member of our team, you will contribute to the continued
reliable delivery of the highest-quality potable water to the over 3.5 million residents of
Northern New Jersey.
Job Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00-4:30
General Purpose:
Primarily responsible for Inorganic analysis which consists of Alkalinity, Hardness, Solids and
Total Organic Carbon on regulatory and non-regulatory samples. Responsible for internal
balance and thermometer calibrations. Assist in Bacteriological and other laboratory
departments as needed.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Analyze at set frequencies the unregulatory and regulatory samples as part of the Safe
Drinking Water Act.
Determine analyte concentrations on Treatment Plant, Distribution, Watershed Stream
and Reservoir Depth samples.
Ensure maintenance of the instrumentation per regulatory requirements.
Ordering and maintaining chemicals, reagent and consumables for the respective area.
Responsible for following and updating the SOPs for the assigned analysis which are in
accordance with EPA or Standard Methods.
Carry out required Proficiency Testing on nutrient parameters under Lab Certification
categories of the Water Supply Study and the Water Pollution Study which includes
Alkalinity, Hardness, Total Dissolved Solids, Total Suspended Solids and Total Organic
Carbon.
Experience and Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field.
A minimum two years of environmental laboratory experience with an emphasis in
analytical and inorganic chemistry and reagent preparation preferred.
Effective verbal/written communication skills, self-motivated, well organized, highly
detail oriented, and an effective team player with the ability to work independently.
Must exhibit strong problem solving and technical skills
Strong computer skills including Excel and Word.
