Position Summary & Responsibilities:
This position will remain posted until filled. Location: KDA Lab, Riley County, Kansas.
This position will be working in the Kansas Department of Agriculture regulatory laboratory. The position duties include the following:
Prepare and analyze samples for qualitative and quantitative analysis to determine the presence of pesticide residues in vegetative, soil or other matrices using various instrumentation required for tests such as LC MS/MS, GC MS/MS. Ensure that testing is completed within established turn-around times.
Perform technical review of the analytical work to ensure accuracy and completeness of testing results including proper interpretation and documentation of those results. Evaluates quality control data to ensure that sample data is reliable and meets data quality objectives. Must be able to orally defend and write a comprehensive and scientifically accurate report for each sample analyzed.
Participate in improvement of existing methods, development of new methods and method validation activities as assigned. Such methods may be outside developed methods or in-house developed methods and would include extraction effectiveness, limits of detection and matrix applicability. Draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as needed.
Participate in required proficiency testing programs. Pass both internal and external laboratory performance audits as required and ensure compliance with ISO 17025 guidelines at all times.
Perform calibrations, maintenance and repairs on analytical instruments as needed. Clean and maintain the laboratory equipment and workspace. Serve as one of two hazardous waste coordinators.
Provide technical expertise and training to stakeholders and internal personnel as needed. Attend professional development conferences training courses as assigned or required.
