    Position Summary:

    Island Harvest is seeking a seasoned Chief Development Officer to join our team, who brings years of successful progressive experience in implementing growth-intensive strategies to support a comprehensive development department. Our ideal candidate will be proficient in managing successful major gifts and capital campaigns while leading a very active development team in their work in grants management, special events, direct mail, and volunteer leadership to raise support for the mission-related programs of the organization. Our candidate will also possess the ability to problem solve, be a strategic thinker, and communicate well in both the written word and in public speaking, manage and support our multi-disciplined marketing and outreach programs and more.

    We are seeking a professional who thrives in a very busy and dynamic environment where the team manages multiple projects at once, consistently advancing the organization’s development work to new levels of success and is motivated by innovation. Our Development department is comprised of 8 professionals who manage both fundraising and other functions unique to this organization’s development department, such as food collection, volunteer management and new business development.

    The Chief Development Officer reports directly to the President and CEO and is a member of the senior leadership team of the organization. This strategic thinker knows how to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward high-net-worth prospects and current funders. She will work closely with the President & CEO in managing this work and setting Department and Organizational goals.

    The successful candidate will:

    • Have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience. Eight years of successful and progressive fund-raising experience in multiple disciplines such as major giving, capital campaigns, grant writing, direct mail, special events, and stewardship.
    • At least three years experience managing a team of professionals.
    • Have strong negotiation and sales skills and are proficient at setting up solicitation plans, making “the ask” and “closing the deal.”
    • Be extremely comfortable and practical in settings with senior executives in business.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office and fund-raising software.
