Chief Diagnostic Imaging Operations Technologist directs the Diagnostic Imaging Department's operations including nuclear medicine, MRI, radiology, computer-assisted tomography and ultrasound. Supervises new testing procedures and related protocol.     Description

    PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:

    This position is responsible for performing nuclear medicine exams efficiently and accurately while maintaining the policies and procedures of the Nuclear Medicine Division including radiation safety techniques and quality control testing.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Travel to various client sites as scheduled to conduct nuclear medicine procedures in a proficient manner.
    • Understand and implement all policies and procedures which include: daily quality control, equipment operations, procedures for each exam, radiation safety, calibrating and transporting isotope (when necessary) and ordering doses appropriately.
    • Understand pertinent NRC and/or state guidelines and updates.
    • Assess daily quality control for equipment operations (floods, bars, COR, etc.).
    • Coordinate equipment maintenance (service calls) and calibrations when necessary.
    • Responsible for performing daily functions efficiently while maintaining proper radiation safety techniques and ALARA.
    • Maintain Hot Lab rules and regulations.
    • Knowledge of locations and understanding of policies and procedures, patient logs, wipe/survey log and licenses (NRC and state).
    • Conduct a clean-up for any radioactive spills (following procedures), file report and notify Radiation Safety Officer.
    • Insert intra-catheter needle accurately (following procedure) while maintaining aseptic condition.
    • Administer prescribed isotopes and pharmaceuticals by protocol.
    • Adhere to TJC guidelines where necessary.
    • Serve on committees and task forces as assigned. Complete all projects in appropriate or designated timeframes.
    • Inventory, order and organize supplies as needed.
    • May be responsible for conducting mobile operations to include the following:
      • Move, load, unload and/or transport mobile imaging equipment as necessary per manufacturer guidelines (if applicable).
      • Transporting equipment, medical supplies and radioactive material using the Company van.
      • Preparation and tear down of operations at customer site, including preparing and inventorying pharmaceuticals and medical supplies brought to the customer site, load and unload equipment in/out of van, setup and tear down diagnostic equipment at customer site and disposal of medical waste.
      • Documenting daily usage and occurrences with the vehicle and reporting back to Management

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    • Work is performed at testing centers, hospitals, clinics and/or physician offices as required. Technologists must drive to and from the testing facility in all weather conditions. Travel may be extensive. May be required to lift and carry isotope case and computer (25-60 lbs) to testing site.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • 70 % Standing 20% Sitting 10 % Walking

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE:

    • There is limited radiation exposure during nuclear medicine procedures when proper protocol is followed. Performance of clinical job duties has a reasonably anticipated risk factor of occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens or other infectious materials. Employees are required to use protective equipment.

    Qualifications


    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Associates or Bachelors of Science Degree from an approved training facility preferred.
    • Must be Board Certified in Nuclear Medicine Technology through the ARRT and/or the NMTCB.
    • Previous Nuclear Medicine experience preferred, but not required.
    • Must have and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certification.
    • Maintain clear and current driver license according to company policy.
    • Acquire and maintain active registration status as per company policy.
