Under the overall direction of the Director of Physician Services, analyzes Physician Practice records for completeness, and codes adhering to the following approved principles to generate coded data of the highest quality.

§  AHIMA Code of Ethics and Standards of Ethical Coding

§  Official versions of the International Classifications of Diseases.  9^th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM), and companion document Official ICD-9-CM Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, developed and approved by cooperating parties for ICD-9-CM (Cooperating parties are American Hospital Association (AHA), American Health Information Management Associate (AHIMA), Center for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), and the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS).

§  CPT-4 (AMA) and HCPCS (HCFA) classification systems.

§  Coding Clinics (AHA) and CPT Assistant (AMA), Uniform Hospital Data Discharge Set (UHDDS) definitions, and the Upson Regional Medical Center (URMC) Compliance

The coding assignment to include all URMC owned physician practices and multiple disciplines to include but not limited to; Family Practice, OB/GYN, General Surgical and Orthopedic practices.
