    Description

    As a member of the CMC’s executive team, the Chief Nursing Officer supports and facilitates an interdisciplinary team approach to the delivery of care to patients, families and the community. This includes creating an environment in which collaboration is valued and excellence in clinical care, education, and innovation is promoted and achieved. The Chief Nursing Officer reports to the Chief Executive Officer..

    SPECIFIC DUTIES:

    Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization.

    Works collaboratively with the CMO and COO in the development of nursing and clinical support staff policy and procedures that ensure quality patient care in a team care environment.

    • Actively participates in and supports corporate efforts to create an exceptional staff and patient experience.
    • Actively participate in CMC’s strategic meetings to enhance and improvise operational performances.
    • Collaborates with provider staff to define position responsibilities, training manuals or modules, and performance evaluations of nursing and clinical support staff.
    • Trains, and assists Site Managers and other patient care program managers in  areas of nursing and clinical support services to ensure compliance with clinical care standards in delivery of services, and is accountable for supporting ongoing evaluation of personnel providing clinical support services through personal observation, staff interviews, records review, and competency assessments.
    • Provides direct recruitment, selection, supervision, direction, evaluation and leadership to licensed nursing staff. 
    • Integrates clinical best practices into clinical care processes in collaboration with the CMO and COO.
    • Coordinates with the CEO, or designee, CMO, COO, and Site Managers to develop appropriate staffing ratios for nurses and medical assistant support staff to provide services at CMC facilities/programs, assists Clinic in maintaining those ratios, collaborates as requested with Site Managers in the selection of nursing and medical assistant support personnel, and recommends continued employment status for these personnel.
    • ­Plans and oversees orientation programs and continuing in-service education activities for new and current nursing and medical assistant personnel.
    • Works collaboratively with the COO in the recruitment, selection and onboarding of all Site Managers and makes recommendations for employment to the COO.
    • ­Assures adherence of nursing services to program expectations, State, Federal, and local licensure or regulatory requirements, and to accreditation standards at all sites­
    • Participates in the administrative planning team and on other internal or external committees and groups as assigned by the CEO
    • ­Assists the Director of Environmental Safety in communicable disease control and employee health maintenance as identified in protocols, policies, or by external public health entities
    • Works collaboratively with the Executive Team to assure Site Managers have all the tools, knowledge and resources to ensure success and an exceptional staff and patient experience.  
    • Coordinates with the Director of Quality Improvement to provide support, training, and staff development to achieve clinical quality initiatives.

    • Collaborates with the Director of Health Education to design, implement, and evaluate the delivery of education services in clinical settings
    • Assists Clinic and Nurse Managers to provide on-site training in the areas of OSHA, Blood Borne Pathogens, Hazardous Materials Exposure, and other safety related issues
    • Performs other duties as assigned or required

    Qualifications


    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Master's degree with 3 years of experience, Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of experience, or AA degree with 7 years of experience.  Experience should reflect progressive responsibility in nursing operation management and experience in a management level leadership role. Management and Leadership Experience at an executive level is preferred.
    • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of California
    • Written and verbal communication skills in English commensurate with College level education
    • Valid California Driver's License, proof of insurance, and personal transportation

    • Knowledge and demonstrated skills of principles and practices of organizational management and administration, governmental policies affecting clinic service delivery at Federal, State, and Local levels, financial and budget management, and personnel  development
    • Knowledge of group dynamics, interpersonal skills, and supervisory techniques
    • Knowledge of the techniques and models for clinical service delivery  professional and para-professional staff
    • Skill in leadership, communication, training, change management and team development
    • Skill in conflict management/ resolution
    • Skill in computer software applications such as word processing, data base, spread sheet, and scheduling
    • Skill in systems analysis and systems development
    • Ability to deal effectively with persons of diverse educational and cultural backgrounds
    • Knowledge of principles and practices of nursing that optimize patient care
    • Skill in the direct provision of nursing and nursing support services to patients

     
    TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    May require sitting for long periods of time.  Occasional bending, stretching, or lifting.  Requires frequent walking and standing for prolonged periods of time.  May require lifting and carrying items which weigh up to 35 pounds.  Vision must be correctable to 20/40 and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts.   Requires the ability to work under stressful conditions.  Requires the ability to drive to other corporate locations, to fly to out-of-town conferences, and to work evening or week­ends as needed
     
    TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
